Revival in full Swing! 22nd Dec 2006 Sheila Cherian
The big story is that is the revival is continuing powerfully wherever there is a willing heart. Just minutes ago we got back from a very eventful trip to Shillong. The revival is in full swing in many places—especially in the rural areas. It was an anointed and powerful time. We visited two churches in the Jowai area with Bah Barkos Warjri and Ps Edwin Langstieh, where we saw and heard first hand the great things God is doing. We met with Rev C Lallu who is leading a remarkable work at the Jowai Presbyterian Church. What an amazing service we had with Rev Don and Dr. Plain! Over 500 people were packed tight on a Tuesday evening study. And why not? God was there and the people were hungering for His presence. We also got time with young Unity and Rebaan at Sohra (as Cherrapunji is called by the local people), visited the Malki church, and had many sessions with key people in Shillong including Bah Kline and Bah Bendang who God is using mightily. Then there were two electric evenings with the Shillong Chamber Choir and Bangalore Chamber Choir that moved so many to tears. We also heard from other voices on what’s needed urgently now in terms of leadership and societal change. We will be uploading a detailed story soon. Watch this space! Sohiong village turns back on liquor 13th Dec 2006 The transformation story continues. Many in the Sohiong village have given up making, selling and consuming liquor. This village was well known for making liquor. However since many have experienced the power of God, they have given up this activity. Rebaan Dalin – Ministering at 3.5 An Eyewitness Account 22nd Dec 2006 Rebaan is just three and a half years old, and has been moving in the gift of the Spirit since June of 2006. People from all over come to see her and get prayer from her. She has given accurate words of prophecy, and spoken words of healing over many. Can the Lord use one so young? The bible’s answer to that question is ‘yes’. We see that John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb. (Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall neither drink wine nor strong drink. And he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.) We met this young girl at the home of W. Knight who has been an elder for 50 years at the Nongsawlia Church. It is a common custom in the Khasi hills to have ‘Lal Chai’ - literally meaning Red Tea which is usually accompanied with liberal snacks. When Sheila Cherian asked Rebaan to pray for her, the little girl replied, ‘Jesus says ‘first finish your tea!’’ Rebaan led the service in song. It was moving to see her worshipping in her baby voice and clapping her little hands as the others joined in heartily. She prayed for two young girls, 10 and 12 years old. As she touched them on their forehead they both fell down on the floor in the Spirit. After they revived we asked them what had happened, they responded that they had been to the gardens of heaven and talked to the angels there. Later in the afternoon Rebaan prayed for them again and yet one more time they were down on the carpet. Rebaan also prayed for the older people in the room. There was one grand and moving sight of 70-year old Kong Ivory (wife of Bah Knight) receiving prayer from a 3.5 year old baby Rebaan. (In Khasi, 'Kong' is a word of respect for an older lady.) Full credit for the humility of the older people in receiving prayer from one so young. Are there pressures on her family? Doubtless. Her father Berlington Khonswir and her cousin Bhakupar, take her around to the various meetings and manage the flow of people who come to see her. Rebaan had given a prophecy about her mother giving birth to a son. After she had prayed, a halo appeared on her mother’s womb. Radianta, wife of Rev Lyndan Syiem (who runs the Thomas Jones School of Missions in Sohra) has seen the sight herself and testified of it to us. Churches open 7 days of the week 13th Dec 2006 The Presbyterian churches in the Khasi Jaintia continue to be open seven days a week. Young people walking in with bibles and hymn books are a common sight. Any bible study is jam-packed. In the Mawkhar Presbyterian church the mid-week bible study is held in the basement, which holds 1000. However since this is packed, lights and sound equipment have been put outside so that people can listen. 50,000 at Synod revival meet - volunteers ready 12th Dec 2006 As told by Bobby Majaw, member of Mawlai Church There was a crowd of approximately 50,000 on Sunday 10th December. Not only was the Stadium packed, the grounds outside was overflowing with people. Many were slain in the Spirit even before the service began! Several of them stood up in the middle of the message and cried for mercy as the Spirit moved. The encouraging part of the meeting was the Church was ready to take care of those in need. A 1000-member team of volunteers and counselors were trained and ready when the Spirit moved. These 1000 members were selected from different Presbyterian churches based on spiritual maturity and hands-on experience in the ongoing revival. Many young people in the age group of 20+ to older people in the 40+ category were affected deeply. Seng Khasi (who practice traditional Khasi religion) were also present in unusual numbers. Many of them were moved by the Spirit and made commitments to the Lord.
Spirit sweeps thru Synod revival meet 11th Dec 2006 As told by Pauline Warjri, Dr Carolyn and John Pauline: My cousin Clarine Nongkynrih reported the following news. The Polo Grounds meeting was packed to overflowing and the power of God was present. Hundreds of adults-not just youngsters—were powerfully moved to tears. People were weeping and repenting and falling under the power of God. In fact many cannot still talk of the experience without breaking into tears again. Dr Carolyn and John: Rev Cunville, who is an Associate evangelist with Dr. Billy Graham, shared powerfully from Mathew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.’ When he challenged the people saying ‘If this is not for us, then whom is it for?’ the response was remarkable. Amongst others, hundreds of the older age group—those in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s— surged forward to rededicate their lives to God. Massive turnout expected at Synod 6th Dec 2006 W. Knight, Elder at Nongsawlia Presbyterian said ‘There is a great expectation that the Holy Spirit would move mightily again, after nearly a month of quiet, at the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod West revival meeting, scheduled for the 8th,9th & 10th Dec at Polo Grounds, Shillong. Tens of thousands of people are expected. Rev. Dr. R. R. Cunville will be the main speaker. Unity will also be there, as a young prophetess mightily being used by the Lord during the current Shillong revival.’
Packed services continue Signs quiet during exam time. 29th Nov 2006 Many of the churches earlier swept by the revival are experiencing a quiet in terms of signs and wonders. Children—who were primarily touched—are having exams. Rev Dhkar, of Laban Presbyterian Church said in a telephonic interview that “Most children doing exams and therefore unable to attend the daily revival meetings. School exams are scheduled to finish by about the 10th of Dec & University examinations by the 17th. We think this is why we are not seeing the miraculous signs & wonders that we had experienced all around Shillong until the middle of Nov. And we expect the wave to sweep again by the 2nd week of December.” Rev Syiem of the Mawkhar Church said, “The daily evening Revival meetings are going on in all the Khasi and Jaintia Presbyterian churches, but a lot quieter than earlier. The services are however packed out. This really is God’s blessing. The revival meetings are also taking place in neighboring (state of) Mizoram. The glitter is still falling, though not like before. After every service, the ladies look down searching for those shiny bits!” 13 yr-old impacts family for Christ 28th Nov 2006 As told by Ps Edwin Langstieh In Laban, a 13 yr old boy from All Saints School, who is not from a Christian family, had a dramatic vision of Jesus, when the Lord told him that he should tell his fellow students about the Savior’s love & death for them. He was also instructed to intercede & pray for those still struggling with evil spirits. This child’s entire family (parents & grandparents) has been remarkably touched by the presence of God through the ministry of this 13 yr old. The entire family is getting baptized a couple of weeks from now. |
